All You Need To Know About The Las Vegas Grand Prix – And Where To Watch It
Exactly a week before Thanksgiving in 2025, Formula 1® arrives in Las Vegas. The FORMULA 1® HEINEKEN LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX™ takes place November 20-22. This will be the third F1® visit to the US this year, after Miami and Austin. Both enormously popular races that spurred a tremendous amount of interest in the F1® season, and created even more excitement in the current Drivers’ Championship.
Best of all, the season is still wide open. McLaren Formula 1 Team teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris traded wins all the way to summer, leading to their team grabbing the Constructors’ Championship for the second year in a row. Unlike last year's nail-biting finish, though, McLaren won this title with six races to spare.
The summer break saw some changes happen on track, with Oracle Red Bull Racing driver, Max Verstappen, making a late lunge for the Drivers' Championship, challenging Piastri and Norris for the lead.
With just a few races left in the season, any of these three drivers has a chance of winning the most prestigious title in motorsport. With nothing to lose, Verstappen is sure to go for it. And as the tension builds between Piastri, Norris, and Verstappen, there’s plenty of room for both costly slip-ups. We’re about to stress test F1® to its limits, and you gotta believe we’re here for it!
Racing in Las Vegas: A Brief History
Formula 1® first came to Las Vegas in 1981, in what was then known as the Caesars Palace Grand Prix™ . It took place in the casino’s parking lot, which was repurposed with barriers to make a temporary circuit. It wasn’t exactly popular with drivers or fans. The track was a 2.3-mile asphalt concertina squeezed into a curved “straight” around the outside. There was nowhere for spectators inside the perimeter, and drivers suffered in the Las Vegas heat. It remained on the F1® calendar for just two seasons.
When F1® returned to Vegas in 2023, it was on a traditional street layout called the Las Vegas Strip Circuit, and proved to be a hit with fans. The lap starts in a pit paddock where Koval Lane and East Harmon Avenue meet, then heads down to the Sphere, which dominates a complex of tight corners. A hard left takes the cars onto Sands Avenue, before taking a faster left onto Las Vegas Boulevard, and back to East Harmon to cross the line.
Most importantly, the FORMULA 1® HEINEKEN LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX™ is now a night race. Even in November, it’s pretty balmy out in the desert, but running at night takes the edge off the heat for the 20 drivers. The event is currently set to run until 2027, but it could become a permanent fixture.
What We’re Expecting in 2025
None of the top three – Piastri, Norris, and Verstappen, have any intention of giving a single place away, because every point counts when it’s this close. Expect wheel-to-wheel racing and even more close battles. You can’t rule out George Russell scoring good points, and you can certainly never ignore Ferrari, with their P3 and P4 finishes last year. Whether you’re in Vegas for the weekend and you’re looking for something fun to do, or you’re a dedicated fan, F1® Arcade is the place to be.
The top overtaking spots are turns 1 and 12, although any mistake on turns 7 and 8 around the Sphere will be punished. The circuit benefits late brakers, with fast to slow transitions at the four corners of the track.
